I'm sorry but this is a stupid idea. Rape is a crime of violence, and a man perpetrating it is likely to react violently when this thing clasps onto his penis. I suspect many women who use it, and are then raped, will end up being killed when they may otherwise have survived.
- 17 votes
Valid concerns. I'm inclined to agree. I think it will make the violence even worse.
- 8 votes
In some countries the men are stupid enough to beleive that having sex with a virgin will cure their HIV or AIDS. To make sure the girl is a virgin, they are having sex with BABIES. Yes, Rape is violence or in Africa's biggest case, control. I wonder how many guys are going to even think about whuppin up on the woman when his penis is clamped and pinched. Too bad it doesn't also crush his balls as well! I can only hope that amature attempts at removal will shred the penis. No sympathy for the rapist!

Ehlers also pointed out how women take extreme measures such as placing razor blades in their nether regions to prevent rape in South Africa.
I agree dbm, but it may be the better course of action for some women.
- 5 votes
devilsadvocates, take care with who you tar with that broad brush. I live in South Africa, where this kind of belief does exist (and where this device is now available), and I am a man, but not all "men are stupid enough to beleive that having sex with a virgin will cure their HIV or AIDS." Some very poorly educated, superstitious individuals do believe this, but it is not the majority and certainly not all.
Grandpa Dave, you are right. I hadn't heard of the razor blades option before this article, so I can't really comment on it's accuracy. If it is accurate though, those women are taking an extreme risk in the same way, in my opinion.
- 10 votes
I agree. I think this may actually put rape victims in more danger. Now instead of simply being raped, they may be both raped AND murdered. Any guy worked up enough to rape a woman will go ballistic when this thing has latched on to him. A woman being raped is already at a disadvantage when it comes to fighting back. What is going to stop her attacker fromt aking out his rage on her?
- 7 votes
As others have stated, I fear this is only going to make her attacker even more violent. Unfortunately, I can see this being abused by some angry woman whose husband or boyfriend cheated on her.
- 7 votes
Maybe if in addition to just pinching, it somehow managed to inject him with lethal poison, without harming the woman, causing the perpetrator to experience immediate paralysis of limbs and movement while dying an agonizing internal death...
Wonder if she'll introduce a prison model for bungholes too. :-o

HELL yes! Maybe preying on vulnerable women won't be so easy and pleasant
- 9 votes
It sounds like a good idea, and might even stop some men, but what if they decide to turn their rape victims over and sodomize them instead? That device won't be able to help then.
- 6 votes
What's to say the guy doesn't just remove it? Have you seen this thing?! I can't beleive this thing would be comfortable up there.. Better off with a carbon fiber chasity belt.
- 4 votes
Maybe predators would think twice about rape if they know women might be wearing one HA HA HA
remember when Clayton Williams GOP candidate for TX gov said, "Women should just lie back and enjoy being raped" For a long time, when law enforcement was dominated by men, women were told just that. Don't fight back just lie there. WTF kind of advice is that?
If you have even seen a woman try to live a normal life after being raped, you may know that wearing something like this would be much more comfortable than some @!$%#'s penisweapon.

I'm speaking on behalf of women everywhere in the world: rape can never be other than a criminal situation and the possibility of being beat to death does not make the situation worse by the use of the "gotcha" condom. I don't consider it a plus to survive a rape when there are usually substantial and extended mental and emotional problems arising from the incident. Rape changes a person's quality of life for the worse.
A rapist who is infected with HIV/AIDS puts the woman in danger with and without the "gotcha" condom. If the rapist resorts to violence resulting in death because of the "gotcha" condom, why does the woman assume blame for her physical violation and death? At least the man's chances of being caught are pretty good because he will need medical attention for his violenct act. Whether there is justice meted out on behalf of the woman after he is caught is an entirely different issue.

This is an extremely emotive issue and I don't want to start a fight, but I really don't think you can claim that every single woman in the world agrees with you that they would rather die. Indeed, Isabella-37 above seems to not agree with you.
- 5 votes
"Why not teach women things that will actually help them avoid dangerous situations instead"
Not much you can do memrix when you are awaken by a monster in your home, with a knife to your throat. Hard to avoid that dangerous situation when it's beyond your control. I think a better deterrence is castrating rapists so they don't become repeat offenders. Unfortunately, many have been accused of rape, and years later DNA proves their innocence, so the castrating should only be applied to those where the DNA evidence proves their guilt without a shadow of a doubt.

Yes, rape is a crime of violence. That we agree on. Yet, I, as a *GUY* think it is an excellent idea. No woman should be put thru the torture of rape. Besides, *IF* the guy was to "pull out", he'd be in way to much pain to do anything. The barbs would shred his penis... Woo hoo!!! Finally some sanity. I think all women should wear them. that way, *they* have the control of *whom* they have sex with.
Rapists need to really think about *WHY* they target women. Just *think* if women were to be using dildo's w barbs and raped men... They might just *re-think* how they interact w women... But that's my view on the subject...

In Texas I was a cop and got to hear COPS say, "Women deserve to be raped" and even in my academy when the instructor asked my mostly male class, "How many of you think women are asking to be raped?" almost EVERY male in the class raised his hand!
Yet the same morons sat with me and watched a film about a prison riot in Santa Fe where a lot of male officers were sodomized with pipes. Most of these macho guys that were raped either committed suicide or went to mental institutions.
Put yourselves in a woman's shoes, sickos
I like to think of this condom as maybe a porcupine. All the animals in the forest know not to mess with the lowly, vulnerable porcupine LOL

It's all on record in federal court
I lost of course cause it was in Texas (my attorney had warned me to take the settlement cause it was Texas, after all ) But it was worth it just to be able to take em there and watch em LIE
and I never knew what damn good liars cops are and how they will all dress up in their uniforms and show up together take an oath and lie.
My attorney found out a lot of other really, really sick things about cops. Wow, what an eye opener that was omg

it's already violent.
rape is an epidemic in SA.
I have friends there.
they think it will make men think twice.
and not so sure how violent you can get in the kind of pain this delivers but by then the woman is normally already in need of a lot of hospital attention.
I think they rock.. you have to understand rape is a cultural thing there..in some of the groups, it is a sign of manhood. Yeah i know that sounds sick. But they have very little to discourage them.
Now if their was a little discouragement some thing these otherwise non criminal men would think twice.
the rapes that occur in africa don't occur at home. they occur outside in the streets. again learn to avoid such situations.
somewhat true but sounds like you dont know anyone there.
IN SA I personally know of someone raped in her home.
Most homes even in the good neighborhoods though have more locks than our homes in teh hoods, plus most people employ some sort of private security if they can.
The abject poor depend on family and friends to defend them.. but it happens/

"the rapes that occur in africa don't occur at home. they occur outside in the streets"
Sorry, you're wrong. They happen in the home too:
http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/news/article.cfm?id=3850&cat=voice-from%20the%20field&ref=news-index
"In poverty-stricken Khayelitsha, near Cape Town, South Africa, it happens in a home, rather than in a deserted field"
"[The rapists] will threaten the victim after the rape: 'If you tell, I will kill you. I will kill your mother,'
An exceptionally high percentage of rapes, 31 percent, occur in victims’ homes

I do live in SA and I really think it's a terrible idea. If every woman wore one then the first thousand (flippant statistic, don't quote me on it) or so would be shot in the head by the gun the rapist is holding to her temple as he rapes her / stabbed in the throat by the knife he is holding there. Around this point, as news spreads, rapists might start thinking twice - but only to check if there is anything there before actually committing the crime.

I was an RN for 25 years
I was an RN Medical Officer for a sheriff in TX at a men's county correctional facility
pretty naive' back then
didn't last long at all- not sadistic enough
course, when I filed the federal suit I definitely had to move away, so here i AM

I will tell you also that I had to search all over TX to find an attorney that would sue a sheriff
and when my attorney filed the suit and it came out in the papers some people called my attorney with some horror stories about this sheriff
my attorney became afraid of this sheriff and would only fly in on a private plane in the middle of the night He wanted to hire security to protect us from the sheriff
WOW that's TX for ya
did ya know the sheriff in a neighboring county hired some psychocop to undercover and railroad all the blacks in town Tulia TX to prison on BS drug charges with no evidence, no witnesses, no drugs NOTHING but the word of this cop
the cop got OFFICER of the year in TX for his perjury, until someone figured out he had been fired from every cop job he ever had and was a lying perjuring sob

Memrix, my post about rapes that happen in the home had nothing to do with these condoms. It was in response to your post that you stated that women need to be taught to avoid dangerous situations to avoid being raped, to which I replied hard to avoid dangerous situations when they are raped in their homes. You then replied rapes don't happen in their homes, which is a false statement. What difference does it make who is doing the raping, rape is rape.
I have already stated in an earlier post that these condoms will end up causing more violence on these women, or being abused by women who want to get back at husbands or boyfriends for cheating. They aren't the answer simply because the woman will more than likely be murdered.

Hello, Rkymtnwoman,
As a native Texan, I can vouch for a lot of your statements, but a lot of us are just the opposite. Your quotes were mainly about sheriffs and inmates. I wouldn't put anything past some of the inmates. Most of the Texas Highway troopers appear professional, not all, but most. These county sheriffs you mention are another breed. They are the LAW in their minds.
No one deserves to be raped. My father taught me that when a woman says no, she means no. It doesn't matter whether you're in the middle of something or not. Everyone should admit there are women who dress and act in a seductive manner. Maybe they shouldn't, and this causes many of the they're asking for it remarks. I don't believe all of these statements mean they deserve to be raped. When I was doing something wrong, my mother would tell me, "you're asking for it, little man." Well, that was a bad example, because I deserved it :).
Take care of yourself, rmw. Oh, you noticed Clayton Williams was defeated by a Democrat woman, Ann Richards.

Sorry Hokey1, but this is bull@!$%#.
If a sub-human is not worried about committing the crime of rape, they sure as hell wouldn't be worrying about committing the crime of buying a prostitute.
- 5 votes
Making prostitution legal would allow it to be more available.
- 1 vote
Hokey1, every study into the subject shows that rape has nothing to do with sex. The cat that there are rapists who are in stable relationships such as marriages where sex is available, yet they continue to rape (including raping their own partners), proves your assertion to be false. Rape is all about power, violence and dominance.
While I agree that prostitution should be legal it is for different reasons. Indeed, prostitutes are often raped even though their sex is on offer.
It's been a lie since the beginning, and is just meant to demonize rapists and make them appear to be sub-human.
That statement really makes me worry about the safety of those around you, I'm sorry to say.
- 8 votes
@Hokey: You Said "Actually, rape is NOT a crime of violence or power. The fact is that when you look at the people who rape, they are all people with extremely high libidos who aren't getting enough or people with normal libidos who aren't getting any."
I say: Come on now ... Silly excuse for Men who choose not to be Men. Man up!One may actually think you are one of them. hmmm.

Something has to be done to stop the animals. Nothing like the self preservation of their little tools to get their minds off beating the snot out of someone else. In single cases this may have a very good chance of slowing or stopping rape. But then how long before the animals figure this out and check with a stick first?
If its a gang rape, it won't help, but then nothing would. Is knowing you inflicted pain on one of the animals before the rest of them killed you or just left you for dead an improvement?
Frankly I think it needs to be improved. I suggest that it be coated with a poison so that no matter what the owners dick rots off or maybe something that would kill the owner slowly and painfully over a few months would be a nice touch.
In any case, if it cost the animal his dick, I'll lay odds it wouldn't take three days for everyone to hear about that bit of news, and that, might actually help the situation.
Be interesting to see the effect, and the reaction of rapists, this has. If it works at all don't be surprised to see this at a drugstore near you or more likely, a new black market develop in a matter of weeks.
"Ladies, tired of the cowards not taking no for an answer? Worried about date rape drugs? Have we got a feminine hygiene product for you"... lol
I would buy my daughter a years supply in a wink.
And one little suggestion for the ladies. While he is distracted by that plastic viper gnawing on his buddy, running is probably the best idea but... if you have the chance, use something heavy to smash his head and face into a pulp. You'll feel better and will have removed a threat to every other woman in the world. That would be a good thing, IMHO of course.

South Africa is brutal. My friend had a flame thrower on his Range rover and would toast people in Johannessburg when they tried to carjack him or so he says.
- 4 votes
I believe that. I have heard of vehicles with flame throwers under them and also door handles that send high voltage shocks to prevent you from being carjacked down there.. I don't know if they ever implemented the flame throwers but, they did start using the electrified door handles.
- 3 votes
The flame-throwers are real, but I am not sure how many people have them, it's probably very few. The chances of killing innocent bystanders is just too high, in my opinion. I haven't heard anything about the door handles, do you have a link?
- 6 votes
beetle, I have no link but I have heard of the electrified door handle. Try looking under "auto, armor, custom protection" or something similar.
- 3 votes
Thanks Decurion_505, I've searched and found nothing other than "I've heard that in South Africa...", so I'm unconvinced. It's not impossible someone did it to their car, and it gained news traction, but as far as I can tell it's not a product offered by anyone in a commercial sense.
- 4 votes
I have vague memories of it being a one off hack and not a production item.
- 3 votes
Since would be rapists know that there is a possibility of being clamped I am sure that they will check and remove it, rendering it useless.
I can not imagine a world where my vagina needs to conceal a torture device. Isn't it sad to know there is even a need for such a condom!
- 9 votes
I can't imagine the violence that would occur during the act of making a woman remove a "gotcha" condom. Damned if she does and damned if she does not.
- 4 votes
I was thinking the same thing, but I couldn't word it without sounding too graphic.
- 5 votes
I doubt the claim that it isn't removable and it will cause the inability to walk. I suspect that a rapist may remove it in rage and shove it back in backwards.

After the trial period, they'll be available for about $2 a piece.

- 2 votes
This product/the concept of the product has been around for some time. At least on the internet.
- 1 vote
Problem is that the act of rape for the most part is not really about the sex. For the most part its about dominating the victim to feel superior. the rape will still happen with or without the "gotcha condoms" because its not about sexual gratification its about dominance but it may reduce the spread of STDs.
- 3 votes
You're saying that a rapist, who is probaby trying to have sex with a vigin to cure his AIDS, isn't in it for sex?
- 1 vote
You're saying that a rapist, who is probaby trying to have sex with a vigin to cure his AIDS, isn't in it for sex
yes you said it yourself they are not doing it for the sexual gratification they are doing it in the hopes of curing their aids. to them it is the same as taking a pill or a get rid of aids shot not for the act of sex itself.
- 4 votes
I would like to point out that in places such as South Africa where this AIDS myth does exist, the vast majority of rape is still the same as elsewhere - violent dominance over women by the rapist. The AIDS-cure thing does happen, but it is not the principle issue.
- 3 votes
This is agood idea.. anything that helps women protect themselves is a good idea. I don't get why people are against it maybe they subconsciously imagine how it would feel if this thing were clamped onto their own hardware and cringe?? Why put down anything that would hurt a rapist.. they are going to hurt and probably kill their victim anyway so anything a woman can do to defend herself is a plus.. otherwise to those who are against this how would you have her defend herself?? Or should she just accept her fate and passively allow herself to be raped sodomised beaten and killed without doing anyting??
- 6 votes
A big fear may be that she leaves it in and forgets about it.
- 1 vote
Its a pretty sensitive part of the body.. don't think it would be easy to forget about something like that. but its true some women mite use it as a weapon not a good argument against it tho
- 2 votes
You're assuming that they're both sober enough to remember she's wearing one. It could end up as a terrible accident if she forgets (ie, drunk) while hooking up with a guy from some bar (non-rape).
- 1 vote
Some how I don't think siting around dreaming up may be scenarios where this hurts some innocent guy is relevant. We're talking about rape here rite?? do you have something against it being used to save a woman from getting raped?? how would you have her protect herself otherwise if you do?
- 4 votes
We are talking about rape prevention. However, you have to assume that she is going to wear these alot when going out. What I don't trust is that people are honest or aren't careless while wearing something like this.
As for actual protection, I haven't a clue.

For those who are concerned that the rapist would become more violent when he realizes he's been clamped, maybe coating the barbs with something like curare, a fast-acting paralytic, would be a partial answer. However, that still would not stop the would-be rapist from using a broom handle first. I think anyone who really is intent on rape will figure out ways around this pretty quickly.
I'd be in favor of something that does not cause immediate pain to the rapist but would somehow poison him and cause death within a short time, somewhat along the line suggested by fuhgedaboutit.
Frankly I think it needs to be improved. I suggest that it be coated with a poison so that no matter what the owners dick rots off or maybe something that would kill the owner slowly and painfully over a few months would be a nice touch.

This is a great deterrent but, as a lot of people have pointed out, there are some real drawbacks to actually using it. The best thing for an individual woman might be to buy one and wear a sticker saying PROTECTED BY RAPE-AXE, or some such, but leave the actual device in the box!
On the other hand, if a small but significant group of women volunteer to use them and make a very public announcement that they are doing so (but without the previously-mentioned "stickers") that might make all women in the area safer -- similar to the well-publicized external benefits to the community that comes when enough people are using LoJack to protect their cars.
- 2 votes
I know people feel compassion for those suffering and would like nothing but to help but this idea is not a very good one because...Violence breeds violence.
To speak UP is a good way to stop violence. If more people weren't afraid to speak about what they have suffered, more people would be aware and this would intimidade the ones trying to hurt others.
- 3 votes
To speak UP is a good way to stop violence.
Cris, I disagree. Talk is cheap. The ones perpetrating this violence upon women are not the type to be intimidated by talk. An active, immediate intervention is what is needed, something that says, "If you continue this unacceptable behavior, you will be hurt."
- 5 votes
I don't know if the thing can or will work, but bottom line to me, everyone is allowed to protect themselves in any way they like and if it costs some cowardly prick his dick then I say good for you girl.
You use enough violence on the violent and I promise you their violence will stop.

Self-defence is a great idea. Giving them an item that causes rage and pain in an already violent attacker, without any ability to actually protect themselves, is a bad idea.

Their lives are already in danger. Anything they do from looking at the man to not struggling enough could aggravate the situation. This isn't drunken date rape we're talking here, these are not real men they are dealing with, they are rabid animals, there is no way to tell what they will do.
These things may infuriate the men more, but it may cause enough pain that the women can run. I'd rather they tried something.

Using this device is a personal choice. Almost like someone buying a gun, pepper spray, etc....it is always possible that the device you use to deter crime can be used against you. There is an old saying in law enforcement that I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 8. I think a woman that thinks this device is necessary has determined that this is better than her current alternative despite possible consequences.
