whining whiners and the whiners who interview them!!!

I loved this bad attempt at a spin:

Ziegler showed Palin a clip of Fey saying, "I believe marriage is meant to be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers." Her reaction: "Cool, fine, come attack me, but when you make a suggestion like that that attacks a kid, that kills me."

Ummm... Fey's comment (as Palin) ONLY reflects and "attacks" the parents of said kids who "believe" teen parents should have to marry. Not the kids. Nice try Whiny Sarah... but that, and your attack of Katie Couric for asking you softball questions (or what SHOULD have been softball questions for ANY OTHER VP or PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE), are too little... too late.

Beside the fact that Fey was targeting the Palins with that comment, if Bristol is grown enough to be having sex and having babies, maybe she shouldn't be referred to by her mother as a "kid," and maybe she is old enough to be targeted by comic and political pundits alike (much as Todd is fair game).

Yes and keep in mind Palin put her daughter on public display what did she think was going to happen?  Com'on she knows what the media can and will do.  If she had Bristol's best interest in mind she would have not paraded her across the stage but her own desire to further her career was more important to her.  This poor girl did not choose to be in the public lime light more than likely being 17 she was embarressed about her situation and did not want the attention that her mother's choice brought about.

Obviously Sarah, like Bush, does not read newspapers.  Carolyn does 'you know' pause a bit much, and really does not have the background for the seat for high political office.  But then Carolyn was not intending to be a hearbeat away from the presidency.

People in New York think the name will get her the seat, but Many are not happy.  Talked to my niece who lives in Rochester.

Carolyn does not attempt to insult her state with "you betcha" gol durn" and the rest of Sarah's nonsense.

Wasn't it Sarah who accepted a gig on SNL, and now she complains about it?  duh

Drags her kids all over the nation, then complains.  Brings Tripp's daddy to march across the stage with Bristol at the convention, then whines.

Speaks and acts like a cartoon character with her golly gees and such, then moans about Obama talking about lipstick on a pig.

This is just a taste of what would have been forthcoming had McCain/Pain ticket taken the vote, and she probably would have collected per diem and run the VP office from Willow, cause her kids probably would not like DC, any more   then they liked Juneau

Whiny, whiny, whiny.

Don't forget about when she took her kids out on the ice during that hockey game, and when the crowd boo'ed her, she accused them of booing at her kids. She hides behind her children, and that is partly why she is a national joke and a failed VP candidate from a joke of a campaign.

Not really,

The media has had many writings about Michelle, what she has done as a lawyer how she dresses, even her booty...When the media can't find good criticism they tend to move on for Bigger prey... and so they did with Palin and the bag of idiot remarks $$$$

Obamas little children definitely should be kept out of it, just as Palin little kids have, it's not attack the candidates children to see if you can make them cry.

After all do you remember when all the media just soaked up Palin's little one with her little brother when she spat on her hand and wiped her brothers hair? What was their name? It doesn't matter....Yeah that wasn't mean.  It's towards HER remarks, if she doesn't like it she shouldn't be a politician. She uses her children all the time in her QUEST... makes me puke.

Sherrietr

I specifically remember, during the campaign, Obama making comments about leaving his wife out of ugly comments that were being made...I guess there was a double standard.

Not really.

As you might recall, Obama clearly said that Palin's family was off limits.

Sen. Barack Obama said firmly that families are off-limits in the campaign for president, reacting to news that GOP running mate Sarah Palin's 17-year-old daughter is pregnant.

"Let me be as clear as possible," Obama said. "I think people's families are off-limits, and people's children are especially off-limits. This shouldn't be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as governor or her potential performance as a vice president."

Obama said reporters should "back off these kinds of stories" and noted that he was born to an 18-year-old mother.

"How a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldn't be the topic of our politics, and I hope that anybody who is supporting me understands that's off-limits."

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/01/obama.palin/index.html

Just as Palin can't be blamed at any potshots her supporters took at Obama's wife, he can't be blamed for any that were taken at Palin's family.  (I do not recall, however, Palin ever releasing a statement declaring Michelle and the girls off limits, if anybody has a link, I'd appreciate it.)

Rainkiss: Thanks for the link, that was very respectful of Obama, furthermore,

my comment was not meant to compare Obama to Palin, it was in criticism of the media. My point was they were (for the most part) respectful of Obama's family and were not of Palin. They were quick to tear her up for her daughter being pregnant and unmarried. Do you honestly believe the media would not have attacked Palin had she made "blackie" comments, or about for the first time being proud of her country?

Finally...for all those making comments that Palin could or should have somehow prevented her daughters pregnancy...how judgemental. Through experience I can say that people should be careful about the statements they make about other people...after all, unless your children are sterile...it can happen to you.

Sherriter:

It's all in how she's handling it. While I agree that some of the shots at Palin's family have been unfair, she is ridiculously unskilled at tactfully responding. She has a rude and snobbish tone about her.

Palin's response to the media:

I know that a lot of people are capitalizing on, oh, I don't know, perhaps some exploiting that was done via me, my family, my administration - that's a little bit perplexing, but it also says a great deal about our society

Obama's response to the media:

I mean, I, I do think that there is a -- there is a Republican or rightwing -- media outlet-- set of media outlets that went after my wife for a while in a way that I thought was just completely out of bounds

See the difference in tone? Palin blames the problem on "society" and says that people are "capitalizing" on it. She's just so obtuse.

It's still going on for Obama and his wife as well. The vitriol over on Fox News about the new presidential limo, the comments about Michelle's dress at Obama's victory speech after the election... it's quite vile.

And so it will continue to go on -- for anyone who places themself in the national spotlight. Palin needs to remain relevant if she wants to make another run at the presidency. To remain relevant, she must remain in the news. As long as she remains in the news, there will be naysayers and supporters. She said some very polarizing things during the election seasons -- i.e., "real Americans" -- she will be loved and lambasted in nearly equal measure so long as she continues to place herself in the political arena. It's the nature of the beast.

Here's the problem...  How much of the muck being raked is actually the MEDIA?  We may rip into Palin and/or Obama, here, but this isn't the media.  People get a LOT of their "news" these days from blogs, "opinion" shows that thinly disguse themselves as news shows, and such.  Dosn't matter that SNL was rough on Palin, they're not news.  Doesn't matter that we're rough on them, we're not the media, either.

Actual, legitimate news shows (so far as I know) didn't go after Palin's family.  Fox sure as heck ripped on Michelle Obama.  (Called her Obama's "Baby Momma," etc.), but the rest of the media also kept off of the Obama family.

Discofish, I agree that the phrase "one heartbeat away from the Presidency" has been used to death. So let's actually use the word DEATH, shall we? If the President DIES, the Vice Presidential candidate immediately assumes office. No time for tutoring, studying, or preparing: he or she is the head of state immediately, and usually at a time of great crisis.

Now, what are the actuarial odds of John McCain's living another four or eight years? I certainly hope he does, but for a man his age, with a history of physical and psychological trauma in Viet Nam AND a history of melanoma, the statistics aren't great. When a man his age and in his physical condition seeks the Presidency, he'd better be absolutely serious about someone who's qualified to become President on a moment's notice if necessary -- if he really puts "country first," that is. Is that why he chose Palin, or did he pick her because she was photogenic, charming, and (he thought) would win over some of Hillary Clinton's disappointed female voters? As for Palin, did she put "country first" when she accepted that invitation "without blinking," let alone seriously doing some soul-searching about whether she was qualified for the job? I think not.

P.S. -- Re Tina Fey and her line about marriage being a "sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers," Sarah Palin must have had a bit of a delayed reaction to the offensive content of that one, because she accepted an invitation to go on SNL AFTER that sketch. Either a) it took her several weeks to figure out what the line meant, or b) she's retroactively claiming to be outraged by something that didn't bother her at the time, because it gives her an excuse to claim that her family was victimized. Neither of those possibilities make Sarah look good.

Slightly off topic, but related:

http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/story/647229.html

Apparently, the birth rate among teens in Alaska has shot through the roof.

The Alaska birthrate among women ages 15-19 in 2006 was 44.3 per 1,000 teens, up 19 percent from 2005.

A few more Alaska baby statistics:

• The birth rate for Alaska females aged 15-17 was 19.2 per 1,000. The rate for those ages 18 and 19 was 92.7 per 1,000. The comparable national averages were 22 and 73.

• The average age of a Alaskan mother giving birth to her first child was 24.3 years in 2006. That compares with a U.S. average of 25 years old.

• The state had 10,996 births in 2006. Only North Dakota, Wyoming and Vermont mothers gave birth to fewer babies. In 4,047 of the births the mother was not married.

• 81.1 percent of Alaskan mothers began their prenatal care during the first trimester of their pregnancy, compared with 83 percent nationally.

• 23 percent of Alaska births were by cesarean delivery, with only Idaho and Utah having a lower cesarean rate. The U.S. average was 31 percent.

• 6 percent of Alaska babies had a low birth weight, the smallest percentage in the country. Low birth weight is considered less than 5 pounds 8 ounces.

Something has gone VERY wrong up there.

Well as I see it, Kennedy may get a position because she has more class.  Did McCain not gain priveledges based on his dad?

Couric, dared to ask her questions and she had great answers but Couric altered them so we only heard what made her sound inept.  How dare Couric make her admit she does not read when it was already clear to most of us that she does not.

Fey, had the gall to poke fun on her on a satire show.  That's why she did the show so she could make a fool of herself!  It worked and she never had to act!

But it does not stop there!

The three got together bought the turkey she pardon before she used its death as her backdrop in Alaska.

The media was against her.(I am still waiting for somebody to give me examples of how the media treated her poorly)  That said, it is not the medias job to be nice to Palin.  I am sure winking her eyes works for her in Alaska, but it takes more in the real world (outside of Alaska).

The media placed her under investigation.

You know what? I can't go on.  Palin exit stage left and we promise never to mention you again.

Coach Maxx-1.17--Sarah consulted with Bristol about her candidacy before accepting it from Senator McCain

Do you have a link for that? It's something I've been curious about.

You cannot ask neocons like lisaed to present facts, it disrupts their lies.

Thank you for #1.37.  It explains much as I too have noticed how some folks throw around lies and if you ask them to provide relevance they never do!  Your comment explains it well.

As for Palin,

If she really wants to be left alone, all she needs do is stop talking.  It would not be difficult for America to forget her.  I had forgotten about her until this came up.  She is in the right environment for her.  Just a wink of an eye and a small population where women want to see a female in power and men want eye candy will accept the emptiness between her ears.

That is why I would describe this as "Classless Warfare", Sarah thinks that saying anything is better than saying nothing at all. Foolish people rarely think they are being foolish even when it is pointed out to them time and time again.

Darn that media, getting their news from bloggers, HA HA HA.

Hi Jen, neocons like lisaed follow the Karl Rove school of thought. Which is directly out of the Adolph Hitler playbook. Tell a lie over and over and the weak minded will eventually believe it. They can not tell you facts, because in most cases, there is no fact, just propaganda. This is exactly what happened to the Jews and others, by fooling the people that 'those people' were ruining the country (Germany). After years of this baloney, look what happened. And all the Germans believed it, after all everyone was saying the same thing, so it MUST be true.

The TRUTH be damned, just keep telling the lies.

Linda 1.7---that's a terribly sexist position to take about Sarah and her family.

How is what she said even REMOTELY sexist?

Palin basically admitted she was hiding behind Piper at the Flyers game, that she used her 7 year-old child as a shield. As reported on the Fixed-News website:

"The GOP Vice-Presidential nominee said at an earlier fundraiser that she would stop some of the booing from the rowdy Philadelphia fans by putting her seven year old daughter, Piper in a Flyers jersey. She said, “How dare they boo Piper!” "

The woman is shameless.

Palin is right in a way......she isn't in the same class as Kennedy, Couric or Fey. She couldn't measure up to these women, so she attempts to grab them by the hi-heels and pull them down.

Couldn't agree more. They have class and Palin has no real idea of what class is.

Poor Sarah Palin is sooooo persecuted. Her family, her daughter is the only "child" exploited by the press.

Anyone remember Rush Limbaugh calling Chelsea Clinton the family dog when she was only 13....BTW that is a child..... Not a 17 year old.

And what about making exceptions for her future son in law, by getting him an "apprenticeship" (job). Was this a dowry???

Coach Maxx

Parading during the CHILD'S private times is appauling. Bristol didn't deserve to be forced into the spotlight druing HER MOTHER'S quest for power & fame.

I live in New York, and what I find appalling is Hillary Clinton's time AWOL from her Senate seat to further her quest for power and fame on taxpayer time. Instead of being taken to task, she is receiving a Cabinet position. The pols are busy scratching each other's backs, enjoying the high life while we all get to dine on crap sandwiches. It's gonna be a great four years.

Like it or not, Sarah Palin didn't need to trade on her family's name to get elected, which makes her a damned sight more credible than Caroline Kennedy or Hillary Clinton. Dumbass New Yorkers voted Hil in proving qualifications mean little. Pretty much anyone of age with a pulse can land a seat in New York. At least Caroline is a long-time resident.

Re Palin's consultation with her family about accepting the nomination, she did say she'd discussed it with them, but she also gave several conflicting and mutually contradictory statements about how and when they'd discussed it.

McCain gave up the privilege that his dad could of brought him, and got him out of the prisoner of war camp, but he stayed in honor of the " Code of a Soldier ".

We all need to stop patronizing the liberal media sources including SNL.  What they did in the last election cycle is flex their power and were unfair.  All Americans want fairness.

These sources put a target on Palins back, and her kids, but wouldn't even comment on the WIFE of their appointed candidate.  How pathetic.  America has a lot to loose in the long run if this continues.  Turn off your idiot box ( T.V. ).

Re McCain: No, he definitely did NOT abide by the code of honor; he signed a bogus confession, and gave information, earning himself the nickname "songbird" with his fellow POW's. That's why he didn't like to talk about his experience in prison until Karl Rove's disciples convinced him that it was the best way to establish his "brand" with the voters. But it's not fair to say that he was responsible for the fire on the Forrestall. It's pretty clearly established that whatever caused the accident, his plane was nowhere near the start of the disastrous chain of events. He did, however, do nothing to help fight the fire, after escaping from his own plane, and a couple of days later, he left the ship with the journalists who had arrived to cover the story. While his fellow Navy men were repairing the damage, he was having some "R & R." The all-American mythology that he and Palin created around themselves doesn't stand up to close examination for a moment.

sherrietr 1.4 - you're right, not all people can handle the shunts or the pills or even an IUD - and of course, nothing is 100% (my husband was conceived on an IUD and they're supposedly the most effective - and he gets great radio reception in his teeth...) but I doubt that they even tried anything.  Kids today need to know its not just about preventing births either - but preventing diseases and death.  If I had my way, my daughter would have been on BC from 14 on.  However, she is concerned about the side effects (at 17 - mostly the weight gain) and so we've gone round and round about it.  But she swears she isn't active (yeah, maybe..) and if she decides to be so - then she'll come to me for protection.  We've talked about birth control and potential diseases since she first learned where babies come from.  She is really open and honest with me about her 'activities' oftentimes much to my chagrin.  But I can't shut off the communications because I want her to be able to choose when he decides to have a child - and not an 'after the fact' choice.

Sorry - got a bit off topic.

Caroline Sloshburg ( Kennedy ) hasn't done anything.  Except say " I ya know want ya know to be um ya know A a ya know senator ya know um ".

Brian - First off, winning 3 elections hardly means you would have class. Caroline Kennedy has more class in her pinkie finger than Palin will ever have in her life. Caroline has always been a private person and kept her family away from the media spotlight, unlike Palin pimping her kids out for all to see.

Second, let's not start throwing stones in glass houses, McCain would be nowhere if it weren't for his daddy and grandfather's credentials. Bobby Kennedy might not have been a frontrunner for his presidential candidacy if his brother hadn't been a popular president and we all know W. got where he is because of daddy. Nepotism runs wild everywhere in the world. Deal with it. And don't think Palin wouldn't have used connections, if she'd had any.

And lastly, I don't think anyone can debate that she is qualified to be governor of Alaska, I'm sure she knows her own state well and can govern it just fine, albeit, corruptly, which unfortunately happens all the time on both sides of the aisle. But let's speak frankly here: she was never qualified to travel to the lower 48, let alone run for the second highest office in the nation. If McCain wanted a female running mate, I can think of a few Republican women off the top of my head who would have been much better suited for the ticket. She is just a woman with delusions of grandeur who can't construct a simple declarative sentence. Period.

By the way, does anyone remember when Palin first came onto the scene saying that Clinton was a big fat whiner because she said that as a woman she was being treated unfairly and if Hillary wasn't prepared to take the criticism, she shouldn't be in politics? Wow... how quickly she changed her tune when it was her turn up to bat.

No Sarah, the media was not unfair with you, they were unfair to the Americans making us believe you were qualified to be a VP. Nobody did anything to you, your own ignorance took you there. Now shut up and go away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joe the newspaper boy is in Mexico looking for Gaza, his latest report is he doesn't see any problems there and the problem in Gaza must be a 'class' warfare cover up by the left wing.

Good one.  Maybe not great Palin, but a good one.  Class?  Yes, but not what she's whining about.  That other type of class...the class that a "y" or an "ic" can be tacked on to.  The kind of class ol' Sarah just ain't got, don't cha know.

All the talk about Sarah Palin is not SMART enough to be the President of the United States, have you given it a thought that BIDEN ran for President twice and couldn't get elected to RUN for President?  If, by any chance something did happen to OBAMA, (you don't have to be old you know), then Biden as President  will be then making the decisions that you democrats didn't think he was capable of doing in this last primary.

    Funny thing POLITICS.

    BB and Brian:

Joe Biden has done more for his constituents in over 30 years than Palin could ever hope to accomplish. The laws that he has written and helped to pass for the protection of women alone should give you pause to respect the man and his service. Shame on you for impugning his abilities when he's chaired the Committee of Foreign Relations, which um, may come in handy right about now, and chaired the Judiciary Committee, just to name a few.

Is he full of gaffes? Yeah, poor guy doesn't have a filter and sticks his foot in it when he's doing interviews, but I don't think ANYONE can say with a straight face that he isn't qualified to be president or vp. Did he lose primaries? Yep, but again, that doesn't mean it's because he can't do the job, it means people liked a different candidate.

If it's a choice between Biden and Palin, I can't even believe that some people would rather have the Alaskan moron with the launch codes at her polished fingertips. Give me Scranton anyday, at least he can name one SCOTUS case he disagrees with other than Roe v. Wade!

Let's distinguish between "stupid," "ignorant" and "lazy." Palin is definitely not stupid. She knows how to make contacts, how to use them politically, how to "play the game." But she is lazy about learning what a leader needs to know, and as a result, she is ignorant. If she's willing to work really hard at it, she may be Presidential candidate material in 8 years, although I'd walk barefoot through fire before voting for her. But she isn't there yet, and the thought of her becoming President in a national crisis was one of the scariest prospects to consider during a very scary fall season.

I will give Biden credit for being in Politics a lot longer than Palin, but that also makes his gaffes all the more stupid than Palin's  he should know better.  I think that he got a little giddy over being selected to run for VP, and I don't know to this day why Obama selected him, maybe for his knowledge of foreign affairs and Obama has no experience in anything, and a lot that Biden said was stupid  and he should have known better. now where was I, oh yeh, well Palin will be back and well seasoned.

      Just a quick question.

Will she be back before or after she has to answer for using her personnel email account to conduct Government Business?

You see DOD Law states that Government Business is to be done only using your Government Secure Email account and also becomes Public record at a later date. She did this knowing she was breaking the Law and if any of the information she sent over her personnel account turns out to be Classified she could be charged with...TREASON.

BB, Biden's gaffes are of a different type altogether than Palin's. They're gaffes in the sense of "when a politician inadvertently tells the truth." Biden blurts out what he thinks, often very undiplomatically and at inappropriate times. Is Obama likely to be tested by a major crisis early on? Of course. Every President is. McCain would have been, too. Was it smart of Biden to say so? Obviously not, because it gave right wing word-twisters like Coulter and Limbaugh the opportunity to claim he'd said that Obama, specifically, rather than anyone else in his position, would be vulnerable to this sort of "test."

Palin, on the other hand, just tosses word salad at interviewers, hoping that they'll fail to notice that she isn't answering the question she was asked, and/or doesn't know what she's talking about.

I must say I'm sorry to you at this point. It seems every time I ask the question in #4.16 the Palin supports disappear faster than roaches when the lights come on. I'm starting to wonder if they all received personnel emails telling them if the subject comes up to run and hide. So far I have never gotten an answer from any of them. Any way I will keep trying to get them to answer even if it takes until 2012 or maybe 2016. After all she is there Sun Goddess and them must find a way to keep her out of jail between now and then.

If anyone in the Military used there private email to transmit classified or Military paperwork they would be brought up on charges and at the least be given a Dishonorable Discharge. TW, IDK.

It is disturbing to say the least. I was one that didn't like it, and worried that she would do the turn her VP and top secret communications and letters over to her hubby, (like she did with the Alaskan governors papers & emails) if she and McCain were elected.

I have heard there are other issues that are to be looked at as well up there in Alaska. There are hearings soon. The legislature up there meets only 90 days a year and they are due to start the next session in a few days.

I guess until then though SP is looking for a new Legislative Liaison. This one just quit about a week ago. SP has gone through 4 LL's in 2 years. Does it show good interpersonal skills on the gov's part??? Who knows. But most people these days do NOT quit their jobs......

But it seems that those pesky liberal media folks just can't seem to get the information out there for some reason.

The class warefare points. Heck 2/3rds of the posters on the vine think anyone from the south is a racist or a stupid redneck.

Check out TL's post  he has trouble with sarcasm. Its not my fault  you hate people  that you dont agree with dont be so Whiney.

Since apparently you are a "stupid redneck" you have just shown us your lack of any intelligence or use of the English language. It is class warfare, people with intelligence against people like you and Sarah. You betcha, she is a dumbell.

Tim, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE start using the spell check feature, it's the little button with the "ABC" over the check mark. It's warfare not warefare and Should is say just makes you sound illiterate and completely invalidates your entire comment, as does the reference to white bear being native american. So who exactly is the racist? And by the way, class warfare and racism are completely unrelated, so maybe you should google both terms.

If you are referring to Caroline....

I think there is a payment for that fame... talk about media attracts... look at her life and her families.

And no I do not believe Caroline Kennedy is qualified to be senator of my state NY. BUT, she is hand over fist more intelligent then Sarah. "You know" is a tick, many people have in there speech. It is something you have to work at to undo if you have it ingrained in your speech pattern.

Sarah on the other hand does not know something and does this verbal olympic BS job to dance around the subject. And looks stupid doing so.

My issue with Caroline, not becoming senator, is because she would be starting out as  a Senator. She needs to work her way up. There are other politicians in New York who are qualified and have more than down state interests.

Palin may not come from a famous family, but she knows all about how to curry favor with famous people in order to put her name on the map for consideration as a V.P. candidate. There was a fascinating New Yorker article about how she invited conservative celebrities like Bill Kristol to luncheons at the governor's mansion, and charm-blitzed them. She has this in common with Caroline Kennedy: she thinks that God gave us strings so that we could pull them.

I think you're right to a point, enigma, but the twig has proved the old saw that in America just about anybody can be president.  And Sarah was in the running for veep.  She can whine about class all she wants, but she is, by virtue of her office, in the ruling class.  If she can't see that and appreciate that, then she needs to change her $350 glasses.

If you want to talk about Royalty in America, it's the Bush family that has held four Executive positions in Politics, including 2 governors and 2 Presidents and what do we have as a legacy from them?  A stolen election result in Fla that was "guaranteed" by Gov Jeb, an economy in ruins with 7.2% unemployment, and not 1 or 2 but 3 Wars, 2 of which are still being fought after 5+ years.

Palin should give the Media a Big Kiss, because really she got a lot better treatment than the average U.S. taxpayer is getting from the Royal Bush Family.

Truth is mighy and will prevail.  There is nothing the matter with this except that it ain't so.  Mark Twain.

To be honest, I don't think the media has gone after Sarah at all.

They were all soft on her...hoping she would come back.

She ran for the 2nd highest office in the country. She is trying to run for the highest.

She should be able to explain herself. If she can not, she is incapable of going up against Putin or any other world leader.

There are many questions I would like to ask her. Just put me in a room with her.

She will wish she was Katie again.

Look at the way GW Bush has gotten away with softball interviews and the mess he has left this country.

          We should demand....NEVER AGAIN!!!!

Agreed guys... on what planet would any other candidate get away with not talking to the media for weeks and weeks? No one complained and then when she did give interviews, they were easy crap like "What do you think of the Bush Doctrine?" or "What newspapers do you read?" or "What instances has your running mate been in favor of more regulation in the senate?"... um, if you're running for vp, these is not exactly rocket science questions, this is stuff she should know.

I remember Obama doing the interview with Bill O. and Bill really tried to nail Obama to the wall! Now that was a tough interview! I'm sorry but if the public doesn't know who you are and you enter stage right with a few months to go, this is what's going to happen, and I think the media was pretty easy on her, considering. As for them painting her in a bad light, well... camera, point, shoot. Asked questions, gave stupid answers, camera recorded them, aired on tv... yeah, what a-holes to actually air her retarded non-sensical answers, how dare they?!?

That would be the same spending spree that Bush and friends started to try to avoid a depression ??

If I were you, I would wish the spending plans every success...although I would like to see the money spent on durable infrastructure (which is getting kinda worn out).

Hoover was a great believer in fiscal restraint.  The economy took 10 years to recover from his mismanagement and without WWII is is not clear we would have recovered.

            Ryan,

As bad as I think Bush was, the attempt to keep the economy moving ahould be a fairly high priority of both parties.

The economy is MUCH more fragile than it was in 1929-1932.  A MUCH smaller proportion of the population lives or works on farms, industrial enterprises and credit organizations are MUCH more tightly coupled.

Between 1929 and 1933, the industrial output of the US dropped by 40+%, by 1932 unemployment hit 24% and was still 19% in 1939.

You want to find out what the depression was like, be sure to call your congressman and demand fiscal restraint and that we defeat stimulus plans.

Your populist appeal combined with support for traditional American values has them all running scared.

Does it? I can say with all honesty that until I read this, I hadn't thought about her. I don't see the GOP talking much about her. I don't even see the *press* talking all that much about her, given the fever-pitch she created while she was a VP candidate.

Palin realizes that her only hope at this point is to stay somehow relevant, and to do that, she must say something. The trouble is, she needs to say something that doesn't have to do with the the election, or dwelling on that, because it won't ever put her into the position of being a winner if she keeps talking about her coming-out party -- which she lost.

But, yes. I was scared. I was scared to death that America would make a huge mistake and put someone with such horrible views and such a polarizing attitude in such an important role.

Thank God that didn't happen, and it wasn't even close.

And, ultimately, it says a lot that she tried to pretend to enjoy Fey's impersonation. If she didn't like it, she should have said so. Doesn't change the fact that it's going to go down in history.

I firmly believe that Tina Fey helped many Americans see Palin for what she actually is, and that she became, for many, an embarrassment.

I say, let's go ahead and give Fey the seat Kennedy is going after.

Sara Palin is right the medias hypocrisy. If she same had been a democratic candidate for the office she would have been treated much differently. Even Gloria Steinem, the champion of women’s rights attacked her simply because she is a conservative. The National Organization of Women was silent about the medias treatment of Sara Palin. Had she been a liberal, NOW would have spewed venom all over the “Sexist’ media.

The definition of the term” Liberal” needs to be changed. It’s an oxymoron in its current usage. I find Liberals to be completely intolerant of anyone with conservative values.

              tman:

I say let the party fall apart.... that is what is happening. A segment of the country is in love with the "victim" Sarah, while the other part of the party sees how bad she is and is pushing in another direction.

The Democratic party floundered for a while. I understand there was a look of fear on Hillary's face during the speech Obama gave at the 2004 convention.

I am an idependant for a reason. I am sick of the same crap year after year. Obama persevered through not only the Republican crap, but 1st through the "victimization" crap Hillary dished out.

I am hoping the result of established political parties falling apart, is the beginning of politicians who will work for the good of the country and not the same damn talking points.

              Can we do away with:

              • Religion interfering in political and legal decisions
              • Power Lobbies
              • Scandals
              • Corruption
              • Nepotism

There's something in the water in Alaska if they believe in her up there. Maybe it's a leak in the pipeline.

Maybe there's something in the air too. We have cows, they have moose - different methane gasses. We just ain't used to that type of funk.

Our "mainland" politicians and crazies come from all american cow's methane, and our waters are only polluted by prescription drugs.

I don't think there is as much 'belief' in her anymore. The polls have continued to go down since she returned home.

And, just the other day 2 of her team/governor type aides quit their jobs.

One was the 4th Legislative Liaison that she has had in just 2 years. They were also people who had been 'subpoenaed' for those ethics hearings but didn't show up for testimony. The Alaskan legislature is due to meet in a couple of weeks.

So, something is happening up there, and the rats are leaving the ship......

I think we all know who is still smarting over Sarah Palin.  The elections are over and yet the media still takes advantage of any and every opportunity to stab Palin in the back.  When an upright honest citizen of America is being slandered by the media like this over and over again, Palin is right.  It does show the state of our society.  You'd have to be an idiot not to see that there is clearly a class bias within the media.

Just for the record, Sarah Palin is a very accomplished, remarkable, amazing, smart, intellegent woman who has all the experience and knowledge necessary to make an excellent VP or President in 2012.  The liberal media is well aware of Palin's potential and sees her as a threat.  That is why they have used lies and gossip to tear her apart and portray her as being "stupid".  I hope that most of us are smarter than to believe the liberal media and their agenda.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of the Palin/Biden debate, however, Pallin did an exceptional job of handling herself.  If you will recall, more people tuned in to view the VP debate than the presidential debate.  That just goes to show what a following Sarah Palin has.  She's brilliant, she's driven, and she's conservative.  That's what makes her a threat and that's why the media was and still is attacking her with accusations of not being VP material.  She is still being attacked, even by individuals like yourself, not because she is dumb at all, but because she still has the potential to become the next president in 2012.

Give Palin credit, she does know how to handle herself on TV, and she should -- she used to be a professional sportscaster. In order to do that well, you have to know how to look right into the camera, smile, and deliver your lines with conviction, even if you're reading them off a teleprompter and don't have a clue what they mean. Or, in Palin's case, if you're trying to b.s. your way out of a question you can't answer, or don't want to answer, and pretend that you know what you're talking about. She does know how to do that well. But it wouldn't get her very far in a summit meeting with Putin.

Not at all.  A lot of us watched just to see how badly she'd do.  And she did do poorly, it was blatantly obvious that she was reciting memorised talking points.  She flat out SAID she wasn't going to "debate" while she was there.  And, sadly, there weren't nearly enough follow-up questions to let her REALLY muck things up.

I'd like to know specifically WHAT she's accomplished, besides getting elected mayor (and promptly putting Wasilla so deep into debt that they had to hire a manager), getting elected Governor, and then using the job mainly to work out personal vendettas with her ex-brother in law and to schmooze Republican big shots so as to get her name into contention for the VP slot. Has she achieved anything substantive with her elective positions after getting into office, or has it all and only been about winning each election and then climbing to the next rung?

No, trex, they didn't have to hire a manager in Wasilla because they were in debt.  Palin hired the manager to handle the day-to-day running of the town, either because she couldn't handle it, or couldn't be be bothered.

Palin limited her duties further by hiring a deputy administrator to handle much of the town's day-to-day management. Her top achievement as mayor was the construction of an ice rink, a project that landed in the courts and cost the city more than expected.

Arriving in office, Palin herself played down the demands of the job in response to residents who worried that her move to oust veteran officials would leave the town in the lurch. "It's not rocket science," Palin said, according to the town newspaper, the Frontiersman. "It's $6 million and 53 employees."

I saw excerpts of the interview and I am left to think that a “declaration of war” was not necessarily declared by Palin.  This could be an exaggeration on the part of the Daily News, an effort to sensationalize a situation to sell papers, both of which the Daily News is very good at.

The class issue was addressed, Kennedy, Couric and Fey came into play, there was discussion about circumstances that could possibly lead one to think class entered into things; but did she outright declare a “class war” against the celebrities stated, I think not?  Either I am grossly mistaken or I must have missed that part.

The Alaska governor was particularly upset with an "SNL" skit during which Fey-as-Palin said, "I believe marriage is meant to be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers."

                  Unsurprisingly, Palin doesn't understand parody.

"I know that a lot of people are capitalizing on, oh, I don't know, perhaps some exploiting that was done via me, my family, my administration - that's a little bit perplexing, but it also says a great deal about our society."

Yes...that the society rejects all things Palin. Except Tina Fey. And why are all her comments riddled with poor grammar? Her comment sounds like she was the one doing the exploiting.

Parody - there was a recent bit of parody concerning Mr. Obama, which caused quite a stir and uproar.... I believe it was a song whose title was derived from a L.A. Times article?  It doesn't appear to be only Palin; many a person seem to misunderstand parody.

Why, pray-tell, did she go on SNL then?

That cracks me up! Allow me to translate what she actually said (v. maybe what she meant):

I know that a lot of people are capitalizing on, oh, I don't know, perhaps some exploiting that was done via (definition: "through") me, my family, my administration - that's a little bit perplexing, but it also says a great deal about our society.

Yes, apparently, the Palin's and her administration have exploited her position significantly.

                  @ 23.1

If you're referring to "Barack the Magic Negro" or whatever that song is called...let me explain something. There's a difference between making fun of someone's obvious lack of intelligence and someone's race. Similarly, I would not condone a song called "Palin the Stupid Whitey." If there was a song attacking Obama's lack of executive experience, I'd be all for it.

Me, I'm waiting to hear what happens next.  I hear that there's already been one person to announce they're running for governor of Alaska in 2010.

                  http://community.adn.com/adn/node/136411

He was less than complimentary about the job Palin has (or hasn't) been doing:

"Sarah Palin bragged to the nation she took on Big Oil," Poe said. "This is like publicly telling off your biggest customer. While it may feel good, it doesn't do your business any favors in the long run."

New investment, he said, depends on the perception of the business climate in Alaska.

Despite Palin's pronouncements on progress for a proposed multibillion dollar natural gas pipeline, he said, Palin has been "gaming" the process. Her administration turned a business negotiation into a bureaucratic request for proposals.

A real leader, he said, would bring together current and future natural gas producers, pipeline operators, right-of-way owners, affected communities, state and federal regulators, financial markets and Canadian representatives for negotiations in a businesslike manner, not a political manner.

"Alaska is no further along with the gas pipeline that we were even three years ago," he said. "We will not succeed if we continue this administration's policy of divide and conquer."

Maybe we should hook up Eric Albert with Sarah Palin.  They could overturn the racist, fascist, classist Western oppression of the poor, together.

Please. The media decided to put Obama in office so Slick Willie could have a 3rd term, simple as that. All of Obama's constituents believed everything the liberal slanted media reported. I do believe most voters thought Obama was running against Bush, can you spell ignorant. How nice to be a Dem politician. Example: Congressman William Jefferson, who will be in jail shortly, lost his race to an Asian Republican in New Orleans. His 65% black district are now complaining because they thought the Dem primary which took place during the Presidential election was the final election for his seat. So a few weeks later, NONE came out to vote because they didn't know. That's the great Dem party. Now another disgusting Kennedy is going to join the ranks. Yeah, she knows what it's like to live in the real world. Palin did put a scare into the Dems, thus the smear campaign by the media.
